The concert was really good, the dinner could be better. Its a really nice place. It was an amazing night. The food was average, and also the service at the diner, but the concert was really good. Its a good mix of Strauss and Mozart works, very well balanced and the musicians were good. During the intermission you can go to a balcony and have some sparkling wine, or simply enjoy the view of the city. There was something special in the Danube, and I know, everybody does it, but I really enjoyed it. You dont need to worry very much about dressing up, because everybody was dressed differently. No need for fancy dresses there were a few but also there was people wearing snickers. I was in such a good mood that I ended the night with a walk back to the hotel even if I was wearing high heels. Id recommend that concert for anyone.
The concert was excellent ......... Unfortunately when you book and pay for VIP tickets 124 per person and the dress code states that it is SMART casual, we don't expect to be surrounded by people wearing jeans, trainers and hoodies. Spoilt the whole occasion and reason for booking VIP tickets. Also the glass of champagne during the interval turned out to be absolute free for all only to be given half a glass of cheap plonk!
First time visiting Vienna and I can honestly say the Strauss/Mozart concert sealed the overall experience of town rich in culture and history. I was initially unsure whether it would be something to our suiting, having never observed a classical performance before, but I was extremely impressed, and remained engaged and entertained throughout. I've seen some reviews have suggested the meal could've been left out, but this added to the overall value, and left a pleasant taste on my palate.
We had front row Category B seats, which offered a good view. I am not a connoisseur in this genre of music but, the all too familiar sounds seemed to be spot on. Strongly recommend this - even to the novice like myself. I'm now keen to visit similar shows :-
The meal was good, but certainly not great. The concert was excellent, although with a very limited size orchestra thirteen players I believe. The biggest disappointment was the concert hall, simply a large ornate ballroom wth very crowded, very uncomfortable chairs. I had expected a real concert hall. Overall, the experience was still a four of five, but a descent venue would have certainly made it a full five experience.
I thought it was really well done. I really really enjoyed the concert, and paying a little extra to sit closer to the stage was totally worth it as you could see the passion that the artists put into their music and really gave me goosebumps.
I could have skipped the dinner portion though, I went there alone and it was an extremely romantic setting that I just felt uncomfortable and akward sitting there alone. Mind you I go to dinner by myself alone all the time, the service was ok, it was really warm as well and I ended up falling alseep at the table because of how warm it was. So unless you are going for a romantic evening, don't do the dinner before hand.
My evening at Kursalon was lovely. I arrived early but was immediately shown to a booth to pick up my ticket and then to a table. The staff were kind and attentive. The menu consisted of a few choices for each course and there was a wide variety of food. It is worth noting that any drinks you want with your meal are not included in the price you pay for your ticket. The room where the concert was held was very impressive, it had detailed carvings in the ceiling and lots of chandeliers. The concert itself was wonderful. The musicians were very talented. They played Strauss, Mozart and other artists. The ballet dancers were sweet, amusing and very expressive. The singers were very expressive also, they sang in German but due to their actions and facial expressions I was able to understand what the songs were about. They were very pleasant to listen to nothing like the stereotypical annoyingly high pitched operas you see in films. It was worth paying a little extra to sit near the front category A or vip as the seats in the room are not tiered, so you wouldn't be able to see the impressive performances from the back.
Meal before very good and concert wonderful however only 4 stars given because of the total lack of organisation in going from the meal to the concert , and the fact that because of a large party in the restaurant the service was very slow. The foyer where people went after the meal to go up to the concert can only be described as chaotic with no direction at all. The star rating would in fact be 5 stars for the concert and food and 1 star for service and organisation.
