Due to the guide we were most unfortunately placed with, this tour was a waste of money and it did not allow us to maximize our time at this beautiful location. The tour guide, we'll call J, spoke with such a strong accent we could barely understand anything he said - although what he had to say was completely useless anyway. His editorial was specific only to the exploits of the 3 Kings, their wives and mistresses - he provided no information on Versailles itself. By the end of the tour we were trying to read the placard information to glean some information, which was difficult due to the fast pace he was setting. We got through the building in about 20 minutes - WHO TOURS VERSAILLES IN 20 MINUTES???. He then took us to the gardens, gave us a map, said to follow the trails left to right and meet him in 2 hours for lunch. No history, suggestions or information about the gardens. As we walked around we saw some other walking tours which I'm sure were a fraction of the cost of this tour - and boy did we wish we had taken them instead. The lunch was very nice and the group of people we were with were wonderful. We finished the leisurely lunch in about an hour and waited for J who wandered in about 1/2 an hour later. We then loaded into the van, drove by Grand Trianon he never even stopped the van and then went to the Queen's Hamlet. Once again J sped us through the building speaking indistinguishably, took us to the gardens handed us maps and told us to stay right. No information, no history no nothing. We took this tour because we wanted a small group experience with a professional guide. We got a small group of wonderful people and the worst guide I have ever had in 20 years of touring. Not only did we waste a lot of money to pay for the tour, but we did not get a full experience at these wonderful locations. If you are looking for a tour do NOT waste your money on this one unless you are GUARANTEED to not have J.
This tour was excellent! Michelle was our guide and she was well informed, enthusiastic and full of interesting information, a joy to be with. The group was small 8 total and we all got along remarkably well. The lunch was delicious and not crowded, and the afternoon visit to the Trianons and gardens was well worth it. Definitely will recommend to friends!
A bit expensive but definitely worth the money! We had a nice ride to the Chateau, easy access, no queueing or waiting. Very clear and elaborate explanations by a passionate and experienced guide. We saw and learned things you otherwise most likely wouldn't. Ideal combination between guided visits and personal free time.
Of course the nice weather and the nice people we were with also made a difference!
The mail at the restaurant was OK, nothing more nothing less.
The tour was amazing and Versailles was beautiful, the gardens were snow covered so you couldn't see most of it but it was still really pretty to see with all the snow. Unfortunately though, because of the snow I had to switch to the half day tour, but Olivier my tour guide made sure I still got to see all of the palace and he told an amazing story of the palace and the people who lived there, it was very clear that he knew all there was to know about Versailles. He also dropped me off at my hotel at the end of the tour, which was very nice and not part of the tour, so I really appreciated it! I would definitely recommend this tour.
The Versailles tour was a delight from beginning to end. Our driver/guide provided running commentary during the ride to Versailles, helping to set the context by sharing the place of the palace in history. Once we arrived, we were able to by-pass the line and begin our guided tour of the palace. Ample time was provided to tour the gardens, visit favorite sites in the palace and meet the group for lunch. Following the meal, we had significant time to explore the village on the palace grounds, which was a charming and rustic antidote to the glitz of Versailles. The small group size -- seven adults -- gave us time to enjoy each other as well as the sighs! This tour was well worth the time and money.
Loved our guide, Michelle. She was very informative, detailed orientated, gave us ample opportunity to explore. Unfortunately, it was raining and cold that day so we didnt get to enjoy the gardens as much. Lunch was a very well rounded meal with wine, and 2 options for the entree. Small group tour which allowed us to stay close and get familiar with the exhibit. Would highly recommend
