One of the many delights of Taipei is the range of natural attractions in the immediate vicinity of a major international metropolis. Take a train an hour north of the city, and you’ll come across one such attraction, Fulong Beach. This stretch of white sand on Taiwan’s northern coast is the most popular and most easily accessible beach from Taipei.
With 1.8 miles (3 kilometers) of sandy waterfront and clean, clear waters, Fulong attracts sunbathers, surfers and sailers throughout the year, but particularly in the summer months when conditions in Taipei become sweltering. You’ll find umbrella, surfboard and boat rentals as well as snack stands directly on the beach, with a variety of restaurants and accommodation options in the town of Fulong.
On days when you don’t feel like swimming, try hiking the 5.3-mile (8.5-kilometer) Caoling Historic Trail, extending between Fulong Beach and Daxi to the south. You can make the round trip in about six hours, enjoying stunning Pacific coast views along the way.
